Center For Families Cooperative Preschool is looking for a nurturing, motivated creative and experienced preschool teacher to lead our 3/4 and Pre-K classes.
3/4 class is held Monday through Wednesday 9:15 am - 11:15 am
Pre-K class is held Monday through Thursday 12:15 pm - 2:45 pm
Compensation- $20-22/hr doe
Average of 110 hours per month (generous hours paid for curriculum planning)
Additional hours: pre- and post-class preparation, curriculum planning, two monthly Wednesday evening meetings, periodic teacher meetings, and quarterly special events.
Our school year runs September through June and generally follows the Edmonds School District’s calendar for holidays and breaks.
Job Description
The teacher’s role in our cooperative preschool program requires working closely with both the children and their parents. The classroom teacher provides an environment for children to grow emotionally, intellectually, socially, and physically. The teacher also provides the parents with direction and serves as a model for working with young children.
CFF Co-op is affiliated with Edmonds College FLED department. Edmonds College provides a Parent Education Instructor for the class and parenting information to co-op parents.
Curricular and Classroom Responsibilities
Plan and implement an age- and developmentally-appropriate, culturally relevant and anti-bias play based curriculum which maintains the high standards of Center For Families Co-op Preschool
Share and communicate curriculum with parents via email, in person and monthly newsletter
Plan a variety of first-hand experiences that will enhance and encourage children’s independence, self-help abilities, and both cognitive and social development
Establish a predictable but flexible schedule and environment that allows children a balance of active and quiet play, provides smooth transitions between activities, and follows best-practice guidelines including incorporation of the Washington State Early Learning and Development Guidelines
Listen and respond to children at their level with the utilization of positive guidance techniques • Take responsibility for organizing, setting up, and putting away materials and resources for the children’s activities before and after class
Spend class time observing, interacting, and participating in activities with children
Demonstrate best practices in classroom activities
Utilize both the indoor and outdoor classroom spaces on a regular basis
Work closely with other CFF Co-op teacher to create and operate a high quality, cohesive educational program that builds skills as children move through the three year program
Attend monthly class-by-class parent meetings, monthly school board meetings, and extracurricular school-wide events
Make recommendations to the school board for purchasing equipment and supplies for the school
Follow Health and Safety guidelines included in the Risk Management Manual in addition to CPR and First Aid Certification
Submit to ADA requirements, including being able to lift and carry 35-60 pounds
Attend monthly class cleanings (on a rotating schedule)
Parental Engagement
Provide curriculum plans and instruct parents in the role of assistant teacher
Supervise parents in the daily operation of the classroom
Ensure that parents in the 3/4 and Pre-K classes have the opportunity to lead frequent small group activities, providing planning assistance as necessary
Serve as a team member, along with the Parent Educator and child’s parent, to develop individual goals for each child as necessary
Professional Development
Develop a yearly professional development plan to share with the Parent Education instructor and the School Board. Attend workshops, classes, and/or observe in other programs to increase teaching skills.
Attend FLED led workshops, classes, and/or observe other programs to improve teaching skills and broaden the curriculum
Required Qualifications
Two years college and/or equivalent experience
Experience in early childhood education and/or significant experience working in related field
Enthusiasm for and commitment to the collaborative nature of a cooperative preschool
Strong interpersonal skills with both children and adults
Current CPR and First Aid Certification required before start date
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge about child development, play-based education, and positive guidance
Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or actively pursuing relevant education
Two or more years teaching experience
Experience in a co-op or member-run school setting
